Interracial Dating: Why do some Black women only date White Men

Most black women have always declared publicly that they can’t date White men. When it comes to interracial dating, black white dating is all that comes to mind. I always wonder, is it preference or just a fetish? And we can’t blind ourselves to the sudden upsurge of black women/white men celebrity couples on pages of glossy magazines and on TV shows about the lifestyles of celebrities. Examples: beautiful model Iman and her new husband, rock star David Bowie; actress Halle Berry and model Gabriel Aubrey.

The reason for this preference in interracial dating could probably be the similar to the reasons why most Black women only date Black men … attraction I hope. Some also feel that Black men treat them better than any other man ever could, and they believe that are better of dating what they know instead of experimenting with interracial dating.

Similarly, some Black women are just don’t feel the physically attraction when it comes to Black men. Much as parents prefer hooking up their children with people of our own race as opposes to interracial dating, this is one of those moments when you have to be honest with yourself. Preference for interracial dating or dating White men doesn’t mean that black men are not handsome. Just like you probably won’t fall for a skinny guy because he isn’t your type, so is this preference -Black men are just not the type of men for such black women.

There is also this belief that White men (not ALL but many) find black women to be remarkable in every sense of the word; hence Black women tend to drift down towards those affections. Much as her husband treats her better than any man ever had, one lady admits that she has been with some White men that sickened her with their behaviors. And she also adds that generally, older White men are more mature on a higher level than with Black men on many levels.

For some, it is the color (much as we pro interracial dating people like to refute.) It’s the differences that turn them on … skin color, hair, being raised in different cultures, music, foods … the list is endless. It’s the desire for the mysterious and unknown. And for some … LOVE.

Reasons for interracial dating vary. But we all need to remember that much as these women prefer black white dating, not every White man is a Black woman’s dream. It all depends on the individual … good and bad comes in all colors.

The phrase that interracial dating ‘…should be about love and not color’ – is cute. But in this scenario, not exclusively truthful. It’s not only about love. I believe love is cultivated eventually based on the kind of White guy a black woman meets; after is physical attraction and a declaration to date only one race.
